Lego Project for the Sake of Learning

My wife is an art teacher at the high school and middle school level. As a benefit the school was auctioning off various things and this was one of those things. A kid and two friends of their choice were given paint pens and walked through the process of properly masking things to produce this sort of art work. To the left was the basic template that was provided. The full process was explained from start to finish. We just couldn't have kids spray painting.

I always thought that masking was hard, but over the years I learned how easy you can create things with stencils and through various masking techniques. It was nice to be able to share this with the kids. All the lego people were spray painted with flecks through out, and I can't believe how well the kids did (featured below). I thought maybe my wife did all three... You're basically set up for success with these templates. I have done a bunch go lego people personally and it's always a lot of fun.

Big Bet Means Big Fun

by Jamie Bennett

This is the end result of this years Big Bet campaign. Every year Guaranty's owners (the Nills, father and son) make a wager about who will win the Oregon State (OSU) vs University of Oregon (UO) football game. Shannon, the son went to OSU and his father went to UO. So this year the bet was that the looser would get a tattoo dedicated to the winners Alma Mater. Shannon lost, and so he had to get the Ducks mascot tattooed on his arm.

If you expand the story you, you can see the commercial, and additional tattoo concepts.

SPOOKY, Back Dated Stories!!!

by Jamie Bennett

I have been waiting to post a number of smaller projects that I have been working on. The reason for this is that I wanted to continue to promote My RV Business award (above the fold). It's older news now, and I am stacking blog stories at this point. I currently have two blog entries, in addition to this one to write.

To the right you will see some packing that I created for the good people at Bear Mountain Honey. They will soon be selling these "stix" all over Lane County in various healthy food stores. This is really good stuff, uncut, and great on everything.

If you haven't yet expanded the story you should! I got a laundry list of interesting projects, and accomplishments to review.

Work Hard, Play Hard

by Jamie Bennett

Nothing new to report. We are beating the war drums pretty hard at Guaranty. We have basically been rotating campaigns weekly onsite, as well as offsite. We have been producing endless amounts of marketing materials. The show season for RVs is off and running with great success. At this rate, we should have our most profitable year on record. I have been over utilizing my plotter, and I am beginning to wonder what I ever did without one. It is super handy, to be able to make signage in-house at a moments notice.

Above is a photo of me DisneyBounding as Smee and my daughter is Think, naturally. We spent this spring break in Disneyland. I love Disneyland – to be surrounded by the positive energy of decades of happy children was exactly what I needed. My daughter had never experienced Disneyland, and she was blown away. To the right is a photo of her with her hero. She was so nervous that she couldn't even look at Cinderella, that was until we got her a make over at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. These are memories I will cherish for a lifetime. Not the most restful vacation. I was up every morning earlier than I typically get up for a work day. I also got pneumonia the last two days I was in California, and i had to drive back home sick. It was all worth it. I love Disneyland and can't wait to go back.

Painting the Art Room (Continued)

by Jamie Bennett

So I really just wanted to throw up a couple images of the rest of our paint job at Roosevelt Middle School. I love the way everything turned out. Here are the last of the cupboards. We decided to incorporate Jake the Dog. The idea was to invite a modern character that kids know to the Keith Haring party. I for one, love Adventure time!

Painting an Art Room

by Jamie Bennett

Cascade Colour is donating time and resource to painting and decorating the Roosevelt Middle School in Eugene, OR. We are currently halfway done. We painted Keith Haring imagery all over the cabinets and drawers, as well as installed decals on the windows. We will continue to paint this weekend and we are discussing other imagery to include.

I really love Keith Haring. He is one of my all time favorite artists. I remember seeing his work as a kid and he really inspired me to go into art, to draw more and explore my own style. I really hope that he inspires a new generation of young artists.

Fun with Hydrochloric Acid

by Jamie Bennett

So my hydrochloric acid finally came in and I was able to try out some acid etching for the first time. It was a lot of fun. I was slightly nervous, thinking that I might come out looking like the Phantom of the Opera but it all went very smoothly. I made sure I was completely covered and wore a mask. If you haven't ever worked around hydrochloric acid know only that this acid is super corrosive towards organic materials and it smells awful. Even breathing in a small amount is enough to make you gag.

S.E.E. See Everything Everywhere

by Jamie Bennett

S.E.E. is and incredible metaphysical zine that is all about consciousness. It's roughly 28 pages long and packed with incredible artwork from multiple artists, across the globe. It is a really interesting read and I am glad to have participated in the project. The print quality itself is really good. Chris Reynolds, a long time friend and fellow artist, was the brainchild behind this publication. He truly outdid himself.

I immediately wanted to help Chris when he told me about this project. I offered to create decals to help promote the project and I ended up creating three different sets. If you are one of the first 100 to order a copy of S.E.E. you will get one of the original decals. Copies are only $5 and you can order them by mail or in person, if you live in Payson, Ariz.

To the left you can see the cover of the publication and a teaser from an interior page. I can't stress enough how pleased I am with how the publication turned out. I will probably begin producing copies for the Willamette Valley.

Please select "Read more" to view some of the decals that were created for this project. I have also posted information on how you can receive a copy of this zine. Please order a copy and support the very talented artist that made this project possible.

Halloween – Fall Harvest Festival 2013

by Jamie Bennett

So Halloween, 2014, for any number of days, over a two week time span I paper mached a giant monster head and arms for a popup tent trailer. I mixed equal parts flour and water and this is the largest paper mache (thing) that I have personally completed to date... out of paper mache. I used all my seventh grade chicken wire training and assembled this beast.

The monster is a Rockwood Tent Trailer by Forest River. I believe it was 19 feet long, which is short as these models go. The monster's bones are paper wads and chicken wire, sealed in a gesso mesh of paper mache. I used gesso and a Rustoleum spray paint to seal the thing against the elements. I made teeth with bunting and the tongue is  red astroturf. It had a uvula. I balasted with sand and bungees. I was exhausted when this was done, my hands hurt but it was an epic photo op for the guests of the Northwest Adventure Rally.
