Supper with Santa 2016

by Jamie Bennett

So this year I only got to play Santa once, and to mix it up, we decided to make it a dinner party. It was great! It lasted a little more than an hour. All the kids showed up in that time, got something to eat and were well behaved. To the left is a picture of my family with Santa (me). Everyone who participated received good food, special treats and a printed photo.

Three Time Contest Winner!

by Jamie Bennett

I actually only won one costume contest this year, and that would be the Guaranty costume contest. I won a prize pack, complete with Ryan Reynolds DVD, Halloween stuff and more... But I feel like I won three times. Winning for Guaranty was great. I have been stymied in previous years. I thought Bad Sam was an obvious winner in 2015, but I won this year. I also got a $25 gift card for the Guaranty Travel Center. We sell food there and have something like 18+ beers on tap. I spent at least $18 of my gift card on Ninkasi.

Ninkasi is my favorite beer. When I first moved to Eugene I was drinking swill, but I went to a Rotarian benefit where they served free Ninkasi. I was hooked from that moment, and most other beers have been undesirable ever since. I participated in the Dawn of the Red costume contest this year. I didn't win, but they did send me this sweet shirt and growler.

So I won three times. I won at Guaranty, bought Ninkasi and then Ninkasi hooked my shit up with this sweet gear. If you're into beer, then you gotta buy Ninkasi. I like their Total Domination and just about everything else like #dawnofthered. Check out all of their great beers here.

Read on to see my Halloween costume, and the costume of someone who went as me for Halloween.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!!

by Jamie Bennett

Halloween is my favorite time of year. I love fall, skeletons, ghouls, costumes, and everything else that is this holiday. To the left is a photo of the family in Saint Helens, OR.
We visited this year for the spirit of Halloweentown.

Halloweentown is a made-for-TV movie that premiered on the Disney Channel back when I was just a kid. Kimberly Jean Brown plays Marnie, a teenage girl who is unknowingly a witch.  Marnie and her family go to Halloweentown and save the day. Halloweentown is in fact Saint Helens, and every year they celebrate. Click to learn more about the Spirit of Halloweentown.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas

by Jamie Bennett

So every year I get to play Santa at Guaranty. This year we used our photo booth printers, and were able to send all the children home with their own printed picture copies. This process use to take 24 hours, but now we send people away with branded mementos. How cool is that? To the right is a photo of me sitting alone in the designed template.

Jamie Claus also made the rounds to a local shelter, and hospice center... I <3 spreading the Christmas spirit, and delivering cheer this time of year.

SPOOKY, Back Dated Stories!!!

by Jamie Bennett

I have been waiting to post a number of smaller projects that I have been working on. The reason for this is that I wanted to continue to promote My RV Business award (above the fold). It's older news now, and I am stacking blog stories at this point. I currently have two blog entries, in addition to this one to write.

To the right you will see some packing that I created for the good people at Bear Mountain Honey. They will soon be selling these "stix" all over Lane County in various healthy food stores. This is really good stuff, uncut, and great on everything.

If you haven't yet expanded the story you should! I got a laundry list of interesting projects, and accomplishments to review.

Santa Claus Drops By

by Jamie Bennett

Every year I get to be Santa at Guaranty. It is the best. I love seeing all the little faces light up.

I started the day in Eugene, delivering warm socks and hats to those less fortunate. It is always humbling and rewarding to deliver these gifts. The people at the Saint Vincent De Paul shelter are very warm and open. They are grateful for the gift. The kids are welcoming and happy to see me. KEZI was there but I don't see a story posted online from their news coverage. I believe all parents appreciate the gesture and kids are adorable.

Christmas in Retrospect

by Jamie Bennett

This Christmas the family and I went to visit the in laws down in Southern California. Anne came with us and we all had a marvelous time. We towed the Airstream down the I-5 behind our Chevy conversion van and it was so much fun. We visited the Winchester Mystery Mansion which was incredibly bizarre and simultaneously intriguing. All the old textures and artwork was most impressive. I don't want to give to much away but if you are ever in San Jose it is totally worth stopping in. This vacation was a most welcome adventure after a long year of advertising and I am now totally refreshed.

I played Santa three times this year.  I was Santa at the grand opening of the brand new Guaranty RV travel center, at the Chevy dealership and finally I again delivered warm socks to underprivileged families. I had a blast. When I play Santa I give 110%. I have the voice down and I stay in character regardless of who I am speaking to. I even deny playing Santa when I am out of character. I tell people that I was at home sick all day.

Halloween – Fall Harvest Festival 2013

by Jamie Bennett

So Halloween, 2014, for any number of days, over a two week time span I paper mached a giant monster head and arms for a popup tent trailer. I mixed equal parts flour and water and this is the largest paper mache (thing) that I have personally completed to date... out of paper mache. I used all my seventh grade chicken wire training and assembled this beast.

The monster is a Rockwood Tent Trailer by Forest River. I believe it was 19 feet long, which is short as these models go. The monster's bones are paper wads and chicken wire, sealed in a gesso mesh of paper mache. I used gesso and a Rustoleum spray paint to seal the thing against the elements. I made teeth with bunting and the tongue is  red astroturf. It had a uvula. I balasted with sand and bungees. I was exhausted when this was done, my hands hurt but it was an epic photo op for the guests of the Northwest Adventure Rally.

Ground Zero – Merry Christmas!

by Jamie Bennett

So this is the first actual day of posting my blog. So many things have happened to me over the years and I am sad to say that I haven’t preserved all the experiences I should have. There have been numerous openings and marketing experiences that are forever filed in my memory bank. Now I have a place to archive these experiences. I was inspired to finally sit down and blog all these experiences after the last several years of repeat events. It is now my responsibility to try and go as far back as possible to preserve some of my guerilla marketing experiences before they are lost forever.

Santa Comes to Guaranty

by Jamie Bennett

santaheader

Guaranty started offering FREE Santa pictures to the local community and it’s customers a while back. Guaranty also owns it’s own Santa suit. Junction City is a small town and everyone really tries to look out for one another. Guaranty thought that they would offer this photo opportunity as a way of allowing many children an opportunity to see Santa that otherwise wouldn’t have the means of seeing him.

Light Parades

by Jamie Bennett

This year I did the Junction City (12/07/12) and Harrisburg (12/08/12) light shows as Eggie. I gave out some SWAG and was mobbed. People were shacking me. I got separated from the RV but it was a lot of fun. I even got a really nice email from a customer saying that her son wouldn’t take our glasses off.

Extreme Makeover- Home Edition – Oregon School for the Deaf, Salem, Ore.

by Jamie Bennett

xtreme3xtreme2xtreme1

One of my first field assignments since moving to Junction City, Ore. was to go to Salem, Ore. and install decals on the coaches that we donated to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I took Vinyl signs and decals to Salem on the morning shooting started. We got their around 11 a.m. and it started raining. I met with the show coordinator or producer who took his time showing me around. I got a shirt and hard hat (later painted yellow for ESPN’s College GameDay). I displayed our signage in areas that the press and onlookers would gather.
